About Cuban Modern Dance Technique:
Técnica de la Danza Moderna Cubana, also known as Cuban Modern Dance Technique
was created by Arnaldo Patterson and developed into a codified technique by Ramiro Guerra Suarez, this dance technique is meant to train/make the Cuban Modern dancer. Elements from Classical Ballet and North American dance techniques created by Martha Graham, José Limón, Doris Humphrey, and Lester Horton are the foundation. This technique also incorporates elements from Flamenco, African dances, and Cuban Folklore, all creating a unique melange. Executed to African rhythms and sometimes chanting, it emphasizes tempo, phrasing and syncopation to maximize its performative aspects. This particular technique requires constant awareness of the space, as the practitioners are encouraged to further their individual artistry.
